The Harrow Health Care Centre

Get Tested for covid-19

Harrow Health Care Centre is on the Department of Health and Social Care list of private COVID-19 testing providers

We are now able to offer several types of COVID-19 testing to our member and non-member patients from age 2+.

You can ask for tests for all your family, but each person needs to have the form completed separately with their details. There is a field at the end of the form called “any other information” where you can state who is paying for the test.

Companies wishing to arrange testing for their staff should contact us directly by phone or email.

Covid-19 PCR Test

This is a PCR test, which means it will identify if you currently have the coronavirus infection. It is Public Health England validated and is the same test that the UK government is currently using. Harrow Health Care Centre is UKAS approved and certified to ISO15189, and on the UK Department of Health and Social Care list of providers of COVID-19 testing. Our lab is also UKAS accredited.

It is a throat and nasal swab. We can perform the test for you and send it to our lab directly from here. or you can collect a kit from us and provide the sample yourself and post on to our laboratory, TDL (The Doctors Laboratory), in the pre-paid envelope included.

We are able to offer this service to people travelling who are required to produce results in advance of flights, or for work purposes, and we provide both the lab result and a letter confirming by email.

If booking a PCR test for travel, please first book your tickets, and confirm with your airline what their timeframes are regarding the test, as each airline / country is different.

Please note, results are typically received by us 24 hours after the lab has received the sample from us which is usually early afternoons and mid-evening based on courier collections. We accept no liability for test results not received in this timeframe as it is not within our direct control. When booking appointments for time sensitive results please consider these timings.

We are not currently offering the PCR test for diagnostic purposes, as it is advisable to access the NHS test and trace system directly if you are concerned you have COVID.

The symptoms of COVID-19 are typically fever and cough, though almost any other flu like symptom can also be present. The illness may be mild, but 5 percent of people will require hospital admission. It is not a condition which can be 100% diagnosed on clinical assessment.

Please note, all positive results from our PCR tests are automatically reported to the NHS Test and Trace service.

A small number of swab tests are sometimes inconclusive, and you may therefore require a retest. You’ll be contacted if you need to have another swab test. We will not charge you for the inconclusive test and will refund you in full. We will then invite you to book a further test (as you are being refunded for the inconclusive test, you will be required to pay for the retest). We will do our best to accommodate re-tests within the required timeframe but this may not always be possible.**

** Harrow Health Care Centre will not be liable for any costs incurred as a result of a failed or inconclusive test.

You can you can have us perform the test on site or you can collect it yourself.

Click here to book your appointment for a RT-PCR test with fit to travel certificate . The price is £99

Results may take approximately 24 hours* after the lab has received your sample.

COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) Antibody testing

Antibody testing can detect whether a person has been infected previously or has a vaccine-induced immune response.

We offer 4 assays for the detection of antibodies targeted against SARS-CoV-2:

  • Roche Elecsys Anti-SARS-CoV-2 S (Spike) IgG/IgM Total Antibody  NEW
  • Roche Elecys Anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgG/IgM Total Antibody
  • Abbott Architect SARS-CoV-2 IgG
  • Abbott Architect SARS-CoV-2 IgM

Testing should be undertaken 14 days or more following exposure,  onset of symptoms or post-vaccination.  The incubation period of COVID-19 ranges from between 1 to 14 days, with the majority of cases manifesting with symptoms at 3–5 days. Harrow Health Care Centre recommends testing after 21 days.

Results are typically received by us within 24 hours of the lab receiving the sample, and we share these with you by email as soon as practicable. If you have not received the email (please check your junk mail folder too!) please contact our reception team.

If an individual has been infected with SARS-CoV-2, they may have detectable antibodies to both the nucleocapsid (N) and the spike protein receptor binding domain (RBD). Baseline antibody tests for both nucleocapsid and RBD antigens are therefore helpful to identify patients who have been previously infected with SARS-CoV-2. It is not yet known if an individual with a positive result showing presence of IgG levels following being infected with SARS-CoV-2 will be protected, either fully or partially from future infection, or for how long protective immunity may last.

If an individual has been vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2, with no history of natural infection, the antibodies they develop are to the spike protein receptor binding domain. Determining the levels of these antibodies could play a role in establishing vaccine efficacy and vaccine-induced immune response.

Roche Elecsys Anti-SARS-CoV-2-S (Spike) IgG/IgM total antibody test

This blood test enables the determination of both the presence and level of antibodies to the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, which is the target of many COVID-19 vaccines,.  It can signal whether a person has already been infected and has potentially developed immunity to the virus., and plays an important part in characterising a vaccine-induced immune response.

Roche Elecys Anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgG/IgM total antibody test

This blood test enables the determination of the presence  of IgG and IgM antibodies to the SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid protein.

Abbott Architect SARS-CoV-2 IgG test

This blood test enables the determination of the presence  of IgG antibodies to the SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid protein.

Abbott Architect SARS-CoV-2 IgM test

This blood test enables the determination of the presence of IgM antibodies to the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein.

Please fill in the questionnaire and a receptionist will contact you to book a suitable time for you to come in to the practice for a blood sample.

If you would like to have confirmation of vaccine response or past infection with Covid-19 and wish to be tested, please fill out this form. The price is £75.

Results may take approximately 24 hours* after the lab has received your sample.
